Programming Tuition for GCSE & A-Level Computer Science
Confident programming underpins every part of GCSE and A-Level Computer Science — from the on-screen exams to the NEA. We teach Python and Java alongside the exam-board pseudocode styles used by OCR, AQA and Edexcel, with complete beginners welcome.
What we cover
Programming fundamentals
- Python from scratch — variables, selection, iteration, functions and file handling
- Java for students whose school teaches it
- OCR Exam Reference Language and AQA pseudocode, so exam answers match what markers expect
Algorithms
- Searching: linear search and binary search
- Sorting: bubble, insertion, merge and quick sort
- Tracing algorithms, dry runs and writing your own from a problem description
- Big O notation and algorithm efficiency (A-Level)
Data structures
- Arrays, lists, strings and records
- Stacks, queues, linked lists, trees, graphs and hash tables (A-Level)
- Choosing the right structure for a problem — a favourite exam question
Object-oriented programming
- Classes, objects, attributes and methods
- Encapsulation, inheritance and polymorphism
- Applying OOP in the A-Level NEA programming project
How lessons work
Every lesson is 1:1 and hands-on: we code together live over Zoom with a shared editor, so you are writing and debugging real programs rather than watching. Lessons are matched to your specification — whether that is OCR (J277 / H446), AQA (8525 / 7517) or Edexcel (1CP2) — and you get practice tasks between sessions to build fluency.
